Cameron Robert Callender

It's a boy!!

Cameron surprised us and didn't even make it to the C-Section that was originally planned for today, August 31st!

On Wednesday the 29th, Matt and I were both working from home when I started having contractions.  We didn't let it go very long because of the Placenta previa that I had.  Around 4:30, we went into the hospital, our doctor showed up and decided that we would go right to surgery.

It only took about an hour after that decision was made and I was ready to go into the OR.  Having a C-Section was a surreal experience - no labor and no pain.  Not only did I not have any pain, but I couldn't feel anything due to the spinal block.  They were adjusting my legs right in front of me, and it looked like they were moving someone else's legs around - I still felt like my legs were lying flat!  THAT was weird.

My doctor was so fantastic, Cameron was born only a couple minutes after surgery started.  We didn't know the gender, so Dr. Werner yelled out "Well - it's not a girl!" :-) That was followed by a number of newborn yells, which was so relieving - considering he was early.  His lungs were strong - the steroids I had a few weeks ago did their job.  :-)

At that point, Matt followed Cameron into the nursery to get checked out and cleaned up.  I had doctors and nurses all around me prepared for a significant surgery - due to the previa, but hoping the opposite.

The removal of the placenta - the most risky part - went very well.  It pretty much was the best case possible.  No hemorrhaging, and they were able to put me back together rather quickly - in about 20 minutes!

My doctor is beyond fantastic, so skilled, and took very good care of me.  When it was all over, we realized we were both so relieved it went well, we both shed a few tears.  There aren't many doctors out there who will hug their patients after surgery - I'm so lucky to have one that does.  :-)

We were all back in the room about a half hour after the surgery started!

That night we just enjoyed our new baby boy and our happiness due to the surgery going so well and Cameron being perfectly healthy.

Cameron is calling, so I will type more later!

This is a picture of the three kids and I.  We didn't get a family picture just yet - Matt could only get us.  That will be the goal today - if all three kids cooperate.
